What's the right age to take kids to mass?
Valerie asks: I want to know what would be the best age for a child to start going for Mass. Many a times I have taken my two children (Age 4 & 2) to church for Mass but they just won't stop talking and making noises. I feel very embarrassed because the people are so engrossed in the reading and then one of my kids come up with a cackle.
I also realize that it is important for the child to know the importance of the Church and its teachingsm but do you think this is the right age not forgetting that he will start Catechism when he turns 6 years old.

I used to leave my toddlers in the nursery because I felt it was a distraction to other churchgoers when the kids made noise. But by the time they were 3 and I could effectively tell them that they need to be quiet, then we brought them to church. They are now all grown (the youngest is 15) and actively participates in the liturgy as a music minister and altar server.
Teach a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it...
Bring a child as early as you can...dont worry if he makes a noise, he is a child...God loves children...
A little chat / training at home on keeping still at church in a loving way works wonders...
If he gets uncontrollable during the service take him out of the church for a while...dont worry about disturbing other people too much...the ones who are really focussed on Gods word wont be irritated or disturbed...
Imagine if God got irritated everytime his children did something out of the way... :)
Hope this helps :)
God Bless you...
